The Telugu speaking refugees from Andhra Pradesh (located 1500km away) colonize on the eastern boundary of Puri(Penthakata) in the state of ODISHA.Penthakata, a hamlet of clay and palm leaves with a population of more than 50000 inhabitants
Their avocation is fishing in the deep and dreaded sea by using their boats for their livelihood .Unfortunately they are victimized often with sea storm causing ` loss of lives and thereby Orphaned their family. Children often supplement to the family income indulging in drug, criminal activities etc in the adjoining places of Puri. In order facilitate the educational need of the children of these marginalized families,Usthi Foundation initiated the Penthakata Project dates back to the year 1992 with a donation from Swiss Air, the national airline during celebration of their 60th anniversary. Today the project could see the smiling and radiant faces of 390 children from Kindergarten to Tenth grade at the Penthakata education centre
Kolkata Is often referred Colloquially as a (bottomless pit).The City is overrun on a daily basis by hundreds of thousands of labourers and new immigrants hoping for work to secure a better livelihood
In order to reduce migration into the city, the public infrastructure (health care, schools, etc) and the job market in rural areas require urgent improvement. Keeping this in mind, the Usthi Foundation decided to open a School outside Of Kolkata in 1987,besides Successfully operated education complex in Usthi .The newly built Ananda Education Centre at Udarhat (Population :8000)could enroll 90 children initially to provide education.Today,We look after more than 200 children from Poor families, starting with kindergarten to the eighth grade. Usthi enables young people in surrounding schools to attend secondary school up to the tenth grade. Since the Nutrition position of Children in the region is inadequate, students therefore provided with a full and well balanced meal during lunch time which has nutritional value.
We empower women through skill development, confidence building, and awareness programs that help them become self-reliant and financially independent.
Our women empowerment program offers vocational training, livelihood opportunities, entrepreneurship guidance, and employment support. We also conduct awareness sessions on health, legal rights, and financial literacy, enabling women to take control of their lives, support their families, and contribute positively to society.

Our food distribution program organizes regular meal drives for underprivileged families, homeless individuals, and daily wage workers.
